Where's my friend?

It's getting dark out Gunsmoke

It's Lap Time

Come on in Buddy,

Now that you are gone my friend

You always were so wise

You'd look deep in my eyes

And teach me the ways

I'd find you waiting for me along the path

You'd roll over, show me fangs and claws

Roll back and forth to show how glad you were to see me

I'd reach down among your weapons to rub your belly

And not mind too much if you stabbed me just a little

For this is the way

And if I hadn't called you yet

You'd come scratching at my window

To let me know you were ready to come in

Once inside you'd sit in front of my chair

And wait for me to signal you

To jump into my lap

You'd lie against my chest

Your little arms reaching up

So we could touch nose to nose

And you'd look deep into my eyes

And I would say

"I see in you a tiger who would eat me"

And I would think I heard you say

"That is true, but not today

Today I will just love you

That is the way

Now that you are gone my friend

You brightened all my days

Taught me the ways

A daughter, a wife

A brother and a sister

Grandparents, aunts and uncles

Many dear friends

Two legged and four

Smooth skinned, fuzzy, and feathered

Like others you died in my arms

Just as it should be

What my mind cannot believe

That somewhere they all await me in my turn

And you'll be first to meet me

Waiting there to greet me

Saying "Hello my friend

Where you are Buddy?

It's cold out here my friend

Let me in Gunsmoke

Brighten all my days

Show me again the ways

Of Cats and Gods
