Blue Water

By:Arline Wirtz

There was a young Indian Girl by the name of

Blue Water.

That lived by the sea shore with her people.

She enjoyed going to the sea shore everyday

collecting sea shells, drift wood and coral.

Blue Water always used what ever washed on shore.

Blue Water loved the sea so much.

That she would sing the most beautiful song in

honor of the sea.

For the sea provided her family with food and other

items that would wash up on the shore.

Blue Water would always take her walks in the

early morning.

When the rest of the tribe would be sleeping.

She always sang her song in the early mornings.

So the sea could hear her song as the sun came up over

the edge of the water.

The sea enjoyed her song so much that one of the little

creatures fell madly in love with her.

Her song fell upon this little crabs heart.

He knew then that he would marry this Indian girl.

All of his friends would laugh at him when he told them

that she would become his bride.

The little crab new in his heart that Blue Water was meant

for him.

For the song touched him more than it did any other creature

of the sea.

The little crab would visit Blue Water while she was

sleeping in her families tipi.

The little crab would bring her beautiful shells from the bottom of the sea.

He would bring her coral.

The colors were like the rainbow after a summer shower.

The little crab would leave these gifts at the entrance of her tipi.

For he knew she would be the first one up.

For that is the time he would listen to her song

in the early mooring.

This little crab also created a song himself for Blue Water.

Not only did he leave her gifts but he also left her a song in her heart as well.

And with that song a vision she would have every time this song was sung to her.

The vision of a warrior coming from the sea.

As she woke from her dream.

Blue Water was singing the most beautiful song

that she heard in her dream.

As she walked out of the tipi she saw the most beautiful

gifts laying by the entrance.

Blue water said to herself these must be the gifts that came with the song and the vision as well.

Blue Water told her family of the song and the gifts that were left at the entrance of the tipi.

Her father Grey Owl told her that it was a sign from the sea.

That your song touched one of the creatures heart that he has given you many gifts in return for your love.

Grey Owl asked, Blue Water if there was a vision along with the song and the gifts.

Blue Water told her father that there was a vision of a Warrior coming from the sea.

Grey Owl told his daughter that she must prepare for a wedding.

Blue Water and Running Deer prepared for the wedding working on her dress.

They used the shells that she had gathered and also some

that the little crab had left.

Her Grandmother Shell Woman used the coral for a necklace and a bracelets for Blue Water.

As the family of Blue Water prepared themselves for there daughter's wedding.

That evening before the sun went down.

A stranger from the sea shore walked into the village.

Barring gifts for all.

The warrior wore a bright red headdress with tiny sea horses and star fish around the band.

His buttons were made of coral.

His ceremonial wedding outfit is blue like the water of the sea.

My name is Red Water and I am the one that left the gifts and the song in Blue Water's heart.

I am her vision.

I am the one.

Grey Owl goes to the tipi to gather his daughter for the wedding.

"Red Water is here.

It is time for the wedding".

As they walk out of the village down to the sea shore.

Blue Water reaches to take Red Waters hand.

And They walk towards the sea shore.

She looks into Red Waters eyes and says,

"I am ready".

The sea combined the breeze and the waves for there wedding song.

With the music of the birds singing along in harmony.

As the wedding is winding down.

Blue Water asks, Red Water where will we live.

He tells her we will live in the sea and the shore.

Red Water says," It is time Blue Water for us to

go home now".

Do not be afraid

As they slowly walk into the sea.

That next morning they are setting on the shore not as humans but as little crabs.

Red Waters friends never made fun of him any more.

His friends of the sea had more respect for him now.

For what he said did come true.

He did marry Blue Water.
